The initial NSFAS payment for the 2024 academic year was disbursed on the 6th of February, 2024. This payment covered the first two months of the academic year, February and March.
It is important to note that this payment was made directly to universities, which then distributed the funds to eligible students. However, due to challenges experienced at the beginning of the year, NSFAS implemented changes to the payment schedule.
To simplify the process and ensure timely disbursements, NSFAS introduced direct payments to students starting from April 2024. This means that subsequent allowance payments for the year will be made directly to students’ bank accounts.
To support universities and students in preparing for the academic year, NSFAS made an upfront payment to all institutions on the 31st of January, 2024.
This payment covered tuition fees, accommodation, and a portion of the book allowance.
