Here’s a step-by-step guide to checking your NSFAS application status:

  1. Visit the Official NSFAS Website: Go to the NSFAS website.
  2. Login or Create an Account: If you haven’t already, create an account using your ID number and other required details. Existing users can log in with their username and password.
  3. Go to “Track Funding Progress” Locate the option to check your application status. It might be labelled “Track Funding Progress” or something similar.
  4. Enter Your Details: To retrieve your application status, you’ll likely need to enter your ID number or reference number.
  5. View Your Status: The platform will display your application status, letting you know if it’s “Submitted,” “Acknowledged,” “Approved,” “Pending,” “Rejected,” or “Incomplete.”

Here is how to check your Nsfas status using ID,

  • Login into NSFAS Account at  CLICK HERE
  • First, create an account if you do not have one. If you already have an account, then simply log in using your username and password.
  • When you login to the portal, you will see the option Application Status.
  • Click this, and you will be asked to enter some details, like ID. Enter details and proceed.
  • Your application status details will be displayed on your screen.

Other Methods for Checking Your NSFAS Status:

  • NSFAS WhatsApp: Save the NSFAS WhatsApp number (+27 78 519 8006) to your contacts. Open a chat, greet them, and request your application status. Follow the prompts and provide your ID number for verification.
  • USSD Code: Dial 12067327# on your phone. Follow the on-screen prompts, entering your ID number and other personal details to view your application status.

Knowing Your NSFAS Application Status:

  • Submitted: Your application has been received by NSFAS and is under review.
  • Acknowledged: Your application has been acknowledged and is about to be assessed.
  • Approved: Congratulations! You’ve been approved for NSFAS funding.
  • Pending: A decision on your application is still pending.

The application window typically opens in August-September each year. Here’s a general outline of the application process:

NSFAS Requirements for Eligibility:

  • Be a South African citizen or permanent resident.

  • Meet the academic requirements of your chosen program at a public university or TVET college (grades 9-12 are required for TVET applicants).
