User Guide for NSFAS Funding Estimator Tool
Welcome to the NSFAS Funding Estimator Tool! This tool helps you estimate the funding you might receive from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) based on your circumstances.
Follow the instructions below to use the tool effectively.
Instructions on how to use the tool
- Fill Out the Form: The tool consists of several input fields. Carefully fill out each section to ensure accurate estimates.
- Gross Family Income (R):
- Enter your family’s total gross income, which is the combined income of your parents, guardians, or spouse.
- Format: Enter a whole number (e.g., 350000 for R350,000).
- Number of Dependents:
- Input the number of dependents in your family, which includes siblings and other individuals financially dependent on the family.
- Format: Enter a whole number (e.g., 3).
- Current Academic Performance (Matric Marks):
- Enter your current academic performance, precisely your matric marks, if applicable.
- Format: Enter a whole number (e.g., 75 for 75%).
- Type of Institution:
- Select the type of institution you plan to attend from the dropdown menu:
- University
- TVET College
- Private College
- Select the type of institution you plan to attend from the dropdown menu:
- Student Category:
- Choose your student category from the dropdown menu:
- First-Time Entering
- Returning
- Student with Disabilities
- Scarce Skills Program
- Choose your student category from the dropdown menu:
- Gross Family Income (R):
- Estimate Funding:
- Once you have filled out all the required fields, click the “Estimate Funding” button. This will trigger the calculation based on the provided inputs.
- View Results:
- After clicking the button, the estimated NSFAS funding amount will appear below the form in the “Estimated NSFAS Funding” section.
- The result will display the estimated amount in South African Rand (R).
- Adjust and Recalculate:
- If you want to see how different inputs affect your funding estimate, you can change any of the values in the form and click the “Estimate Funding” button again to recalculate.
Results Explanation
- The estimated funding amount is based on various factors, including your family income, number of dependents, academic performance, type of institution, and student category.
- Keep in mind that this estimate is for informational purposes only. The funding from NSFAS can vary based on their official evaluation process.
