Report 191 (NATED) Programmes:

Students who have completed Grade 12 with at least a Higher Certificate or Diploma pass may pursue NATED N4–N6 programmes at a TVET College. These programmes offer post-school alternatives in Engineering, Business, and Utility Studies.

Who Can Enrol?

  • Candidates must hold a Grade 12 (NSC) certificate.
  • Engineering N4–N6 applicants must have passed relevant school subjects.

Duration:

  • Business Studies: Semester-based (Jan–Jun & Jul–Nov)
  • Engineering Studies: Trimester-based (Jan–Apr, May–Aug, Sep–Nov)

NC(V) Programmes:

The National Certificate Vocational (NC(V)) was introduced by the Department of Education in 2007 at public Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) Colleges. NC(V) programmes cover a variety of vocational fields and are designed to meet South Africa’s priority skills needs. These programmes combine theoretical learning with practical workplace experience, ensuring students are adequately prepared for their chosen careers.

Entry Requirements for NC(V):

  • Students may register for two consecutive levels only in the same academic year (Level 2 & 3 or Level 3 & 4).
  • ICASS assessments must be completed for all seven subjects taken in an academic year, including repeated subjects.
  • The same optional vocational subject must be taken across all three levels (Levels 2, 3, and 4).
  • The NC(V) qualification is offered at NQF Levels 2, 3, and 4.

To achieve the full NC(V) qualification, learners must complete all three levels and pass seven subjects per level:

Three fundamental subjects:

  • English
  • Mathematics (for engineering programmes) or Mathematical Literacy (for business programmes)
  • Life Orientation

Four vocational subjects related to the chosen field of study.

  • Only 7 subjects may be taken per year

Level 4:

  • Passed all 7 subjects in Level 2
  • Passed Level 3 (minimum of 5 subjects; must register for supplementary subjects)
