Check Your NSFAS Status
Are you waiting for news on your 2024 NSFAS application?
Whether you’re a hopeful student seeking funding or a current recipient tracking disbursement details, understanding how to check your NSFAS status online is important.
How to Check Your NSFAS Status Online
- Visit the NSFAS Website: Go to the NSFAS website and find the myNSFAS Student Portal tab in orange at the top right.
- Log In: Once on the myNSFAS website, log in to your account. If you haven’t created one yet, click on “create account” and follow the prompts, providing your ID number and creating a password.
- View Applications: After logging in, find the “check your application status” button on your dashboard and click on it.
- Check Your NSFAS Status: Your NSFAS application status will appear on the screen. If it’s approved, you’re good to go for registration. If it’s declined, you’ll see a message indicating that you don’t meet the requirements.
- Follow-Up: In case of a decline, you can follow up with NSFAS to understand the reason. You also have the option to appeal if you believe the decision was unfair.
NSFAS Status Codes
Here’s what the different NSFAS application status codes mean:
- Application Submitted: NSFAS has checked and verified your application.
- Filtering: Verification of your qualifications for funding.
- Validation: Third-party checks with organizations like SASSA and the Department of Home Affairs to validate your information.
- Evaluation: Verify all the documents submitted with your application.
- Funding Eligibility: Checking your household’s financial status as declared in your application.
- Awaiting Academic Results/Admission: Verification of your academic results and admission status.
- Awaiting Registration: NSFAS is waiting for registration data from your institution to create a bursary agreement.
- The signing of the Agreement: You need to sign your bursary agreement for NSFAS to disburse your allowances.
Who Can Appeal, and Who Cannot?
- Can Appeal: Students whose financial aid application is declined or withdrawn, subject to budget availability.
- Cannot Appeal: Students registered for a qualification that NSFAS doesn’t fund, those who have reached N+2 (or N+3 for students with disabilities), and those previously denied financial aid during a gap year due to not meeting academic eligibility criteria.
